I had a wonderful experience w/ RBH and always recommend them to family/friends. We got my baby (shelter name was Faerie) from them and we got to see my beautiful girl transform from a shy 2.5 month old kitten to now being almost a year old. She is chatty, sassy, and sweet. I don’t know what I would do without my tiny girl. All the employees have been so kind and helpful to us every time we have visited here. I can’t recommend adopting a fur baby from here enough.

At first: I had a horrible experience trying to adopt a dog there and i had been told multiple times that everything was good to go and then was all the sudden told i could not. I had voiced my experience, not expecting anything in return. Today, I received a call from one of the directors on board, Jan Ables, and she was so kind and felt horrible about my experience. She did everything in her power to make up for my frustration and i truly appreciate her.

Very friendly and compassionate staff. They were sweet, kind, and gentle with the stray I brought in. They spay/neuter, vaccinate, and microchip, and train as needed. They find the best furever homed for these wonderful pets in need. There is a small surrender fee, but it is worth it for these furbabies to have the best chance in life.

Me and my roommate got a kitty here not too long ago and they were absolutely negligent and rude! The cat was spayed 9/22/23 and we got her nearly a month after, still having her stitches in even though they for sure should have taken them out or been dissolved by then. Due to this, the cat had a reaction and had an infected abscess that busted and WE had to pay for to get fixed! When we called to tell them, we were called 3 times and the last call was I believe the manager and she chewed us out for about 15 minutes about how it “wasn’t their problem” and about how “our cat would die because of us”. Be insanely wary or don’t go here at all!! ( Cat ended up okay, insanely sweet and lovable! )

If I could give no stars I would. I took my 3 children on a Saturday to look for a cat to add to our family. All 3 kids feel in love with different cats and obviously taking on 3 new cats is a large responsibility so I told them which cats we had chosen and took an application. I told the employees I wanted the rest of the weekend to prepare. We invested a substantial amount in supplies like bedding, toys, food, automatic litter box and I even made appointments for them to be groomed. I went first thing Monday when they opened and turned my application in assuming that I'd be able to take the cats home. They then told me there were extra requirements I needed for our current cat and that there were multiple applicationst for the cat we wanted. I explained that this wasn't communicated and that if all 3 couldn't get a cat then I'd not be adopting any cat out of fairness to the children. They have vaccine clinic on Mondays but they didn't inform me of that option for our current cat until I inquired about it and the clinic had already closed. So overall my children were heartbroken and 3 cats missed out on being adopted into a loving,fully prepared home. I'd seen so many negative things about Rita B. Huff but I wanted to stay local and give them the benefit of the doubt. Not one employee were helpful or put any effort into getting the adoption completed. We did adopt from SPCA and had the most amazing experience. There is a reason why this shelter stays full....

I come to Rita for my pets vaccinations, deworm, spay, and neuter. The price for the said services are cheaper compared to getting it from Veterinarian Clinics or animal hospitals. The schedule for vaccinations is every Monday from 11-12 Noon. No appointments needed and it's first come first serve basis. When you arrive at the site, they will assign you a number for your service. Around this time, they will not be able to answer their phone line because it says that they are still close and open at Noon. Parking area is a challenge since the establishment is old and not spacious. I heard they will be relocating to a new spot in the future. All in all, I appreciate that they have this kind of service at Walker County. It is a big help for the community.

Awful experience, had two male cats that needed fixing, they fixed the younger one first then when the older one got defensive (because he was kept right next to large barking dogs) and stuck his claw out of the cage because he was scared, they deemed him "problematic" and didnt fix him. Now one cat is fixed and one isnt and our whole household is having to deal with the situation. Also their "holding room" is basically like a pound, they do not care.
